"The electronic transfer was stopped by detectives," said Det. Cathleen Batton, spokeswoman for the police department. It was March 13 when the woman, 81, received a telephone call from someone who "advised her grandson needed $48,000 to bail him out" of jail, according to a police report. She wired the money to the suspect's account in California, then contacted her grandson in New Jersey and found the story she heard on the phone wasn't true, police said. "Schemes where suspects attempt to get the victims to send money for a variety of reasons are not uncommon," Batton said. "…

The following information regarding police activity in Lutherville-Timonium, Cockeysville, Hunt Valley and North County was supplied by the Baltimore County Police Department.
Notice anything a little different in this week's crime log? You should. We've mashed both Lutherville-Timonium and Hunt Valley-Cockeysville Patch's police blotters together. Why? Because there were a whopping three major crimes reported between Lutherville and the Pennsylvania state line last week. That's the good news. The better news? Based on the hyped-up snowstorm coming our way, we should see a second week of minimal crime stats. I say this based on experience with three years' worth of covering crime logs. Bad weather = fewer bad people on the streets. That said, there were three burglaries last week. Nothing was stolen in any of the cases; however, a Lutherville woman was arrested for causing a ruckus at a local hotel. Lutherville-…
