The number of reported burglaries in the Cockeysville and North County areas dropped sharply during the past two weeks, police incident summaries show. There were only two reported burglaries reported in the area last week, after averaging about eight a week since the start of the new year. Read last week's crime log here. The decrease follows police increasing patrols in affected areas, particularly the Jacksonville sector of North County. Police reported making two critical arrests in late January they believe will lead to solving more than a dozen area burglaries. Precinct 7 police have cleared 12 reports of burglaries, as the investigation continues.
Police have arrested two individuals allegedly responsible for a recent spate of home and car break-ins in northern Baltimore County, according to acting commander of the Cockeysville Police Precinct Lt. Robert McGraw. Baltimore County Police believe Harford County resident Jesse Hoopes, 34, is responsible for several burglaries in the Jacksonsville area, McGraw said. McGraw could not provide exact locations of reported burglaries, citing an ongoing investigation. Hoopes, a resident of the 1600 block of Michelle Court, was arrested on Jan. 28 and charged with fourth-degree burglary and attempted burglary. Police arrested two boys for stealing bikes in a Lutherville neighborhood, according to Baltimore County police incident reports. Follow Lutherville-Timonium Patch on Facebook and Twitter. Or get the daily newsletter Between 10 and 10:50 a.m. on Jan. 30, in the 100 block of Greenmeadow Drive, police said two 16-year-olds stole three bikes from outside three homes. Police arrested the teens on the scene and recovered the bikes. The two boys were charged with fourth-degree burglary and petty theft. The same neighborhood was hit by a series of car break-ins on Jan. 11. The burglar smashed five car windows to steal cell phones, purses, makeup and cash. Cockeysville, Hunt Valley and towns to the north together reported arguably the worst week of 2013 when it comes to crime. There were nine burglaries—including one excessively aggressive break-in—as well as an armed robbery, a case of harassment, a very good dog and a dropped cell phone that helped a police investigation. In my opinion however, the worst thing that happened last week was that another handgun was reported stolen. That makes at least three incidents in 2013 where a gun or multiple guns were included in a burglar's haul. But more on that later. Read last week's crime log here. Sharon Caslow neglected her 91-year-old mother, leaving her on the toilet for two days.
Cockeysville resident Sharon Caslow faces up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter for the death of her 91-year-old mother, online court records show. Caslow, 65, left her mother sitting on the toilet for two days before calling 911, on Jan. 17, 2012, according to police. Caslow lived with her mother, Aubrey Caslow, in the 1000 block of Hidden Moss Drive in Cockeysville. Sharon Caslow pleaded guilty to manslaughter Tuesday. Sentencing is scheduled for March 27, according to The Sun. Sharon Caslow told police at the time that she knew her mother was in the bathroom but did not summon for help, according to police. By now Patch readers would've certainly heard about the man shot while waiting for a train at the Lutherville light rail stop. The incident remains the most notable crime reported last week. In other news, a Timonium woman was threatened at gunpoint while pumping gas in Essex. The suspects were trying to intimidate her so she would not testify in court, police said. There were nine reported thefts from automobiles between Sunday and Monday.
Police are increasing patrols hoping to stop a spate of thefts after several cars were broken into during a recent 48 hour period, according to Precinct 7 Lt. Robert McGraw. There were nine incidents reported in the Precint 7 coverage area between Sunday Jan. 20 and Monday Jan. 21. Precinct 7 stretches from Lutherville north to the state line. Petty thefts from cars have however been an issue since the start of the new year (see related content below). "We've been getting hit by thefts from autos ... across the precinct," McGraw said.
