Time I am already in debt VIA Loans, but even loans are hard to obtain and keep a hold of, one bad…Read More semester and you are not elligible for any aid at all.

Sanchez, did you know that most foreign countries do not charge their youth to further their…Read More education. College may be a privilage but they sure as hel could make it easier fo us to afford it. I work a fully time job and make the same as my boyfriend who is a mechanic and because of my income alone I cannot receive financial aid. Also, under the eyes of the state, even though I claim myself for college I am still a dependant upon my parents, though I do not live their. How is the right? I have to be either married, have kids or be 24, and even then I am not guaranteed financial aid.

At Pinewood there is one road that feeds in and out of the school. It seems that no one wants to do…Read More anything to relieve what could be potentially a serious situation if a real emergency would occur. Bottlenecks are an everyday occurrence and on special occasions, such as "grandparent day" total gridlock is the norm. It seems that neither administration at the school or the parents want to admit that a problem exists. I think the children at Pinewood are potentially put at risk due to the intransigence of school and parent leadership.
M. Sullivan May 18, 2013 at 04:45 am
There would still be total gridlock on "Grandparent Day" if it was a six lane road. LOL!
reader May 19, 2013 at 01:10 am
M. Sullivan, no doubt about that, but you have to understand that the road in front of the school…Read More actually has three speed bumps to add to the mayhem. Remember this is not a thru street but dead ends at the school. You drive over the bumps going in and then when you drive around the circle you go over them again. With one road I still feel it has the potential to cause real problems.

It Really Surprised Me How Kevin Acted. Very Unprofessional. I Am Really Disappointed. His Job Is…Read More Very Stressful, I Am Sure. It Is A Tough Job To Try & Please Everyone. Whatever Decision He Or Anyone Else Makes, There Is Always Someone Who Is Going To Be Unhappy. He Can Only Do His Best. He Is Only human. If People Are Unhappy With Him, Then Vote For Someone Else, Next Time Around.

Good Luck with your email actually getting read by him and not Sheppard.

I'm really sorry the children at this event had to witness this. Both were at fault for immature…Read More behavior given that this was nothing more than a photo op for the children to be used in announcements/school news etc. Thank God for whoever did the video editing for school news because you can't tell anything happened from it. KK should be more controlled but I'm disappointed that these seniors behaved this way in the presence of children. Thank you Dr. Dance for remaining composed as usual in the face idiocracy.

Hmmmmm I Like this idea, Im go to LRHS and the last few days of school are normally testing its not…Read More Chaos even on the last day of school...its more calm cause we know we are leaving for the summer....I think we should get out the same time as the city but. I think it should be half days cause then we are really calm.

In order to qualify for state and federal money, school have to be in session for a certain number…Read More of hours. There should be meaningful activities planned at all times during school hours. This is up to the principal to make sure that the teachers are planning learning activities. With no 1/2 days at the end of the school year, teachers will need to do alot of the closing up chores during school hours. They do not have enough free time during the day and that is work that can't be brought home.
Nancy Saks May 3, 2013 at 04:45 pm
All school in the country have the same number of school days. The superintendent does not decide…Read More this and parents will not be able to change it. Teachers look forward to summer because their job is extremely stressful and they work many 10 - 12 hour days and on the weekends. They are exhausted by this time of year and need a break.

And the consequence is? Detention? Short of killing someone or making an administrator look foolish…Read More a student won't be suspended, at least not at my child's school. There's a story someone needs to investigate: The total lack of discipline in Baltimore County Public Schools--it's out of control.

"Kevin" is way off base. Soccer was indeed one of the first sports at Towson, but the…Read More people leading this debate against Loeschke did not even try to save soccer. It was all about Baseball being saved and the egos of a few local guys who are upset because they did not get their way behind the scenes. The real victims in this are the baseball and soccer athletes as they are pawns in these men's quest for power that they no longer have. The baseball stadium was paid for by a majority of state funds along with 250K from one donor. There is no soccer stadium to speak of. Unitas Stadium is used by Football, Field Hockey, Men's Lacrosse, Women's Lacrosse and Track & Field along with Intramurals, Club Sports, Area High Schools, the Maryland Special Olympics, and many other events. The soccer stadium is nothing more than some temp bleachers on a hill so that's not even a stadium. The new arena was paid for by the University over a 20 year period using bond money up front and some naming rights dollars that will be coming in. Basketball, Volleyball, Gymnastics and Student Affairs uses this building, so again, your argument falls woefully short.

what was Minnegan Stadium ? What was USArmy official Phsyical education program that was used in…Read More Europe in World War II and adopted by military to keep our troops ready especially for Normandy? baseball is being saved because it is in season however the same gentlemen trying to save baseball are involved with soccer and will not let it drop.I'm not off base I know that Maryland officials are worried possible defeat of Ballot questions could be DEVESTATING. franchot and O'Malley know they want to keep machine in place .Do you realize power of lawyers that went to Towson ,Uof B and Maryland that are going after her next year? Do you realize that If they keep women's soccer and that it is proveen that title IX is bogus lawsuits of reverse discrimination are coming Tim? You see Baseball needed up front because there is no like sport softball is a different game .If women's soccer is played every male can bring suit against state especially any that have attended before she took it away .Because it is offered in recruiting material .It would be nice for them not to put soccer through this but seems like it is personal between her ,Waddell and soccer. Many kids are definitely staying at Towson through next year it will be Free money .
PMM49 April 20, 2013 at 09:21 pm
FYI, there was not, is not now, a Title IX case involving TU. The supposed threat of one was…Read More manufactured in order to justify the moves to drop baseball and soccer. TU will now have fewer men's sports than any member of the Colonial Athletic Association.
William & Mary, a pretty fair academic institution, has ten men's sports. It is possible, with competent management, to be a school where there are a variety of athletic opportunities for men and women, and be a superior academic institution as well.

Take a look at the news right now.. still think I'm wrong about people not needing guns to do…Read More terrible things?
Ken Pahr April 12, 2013 at 01:14 am
The vast majority of gun violence has to do with inner city gangs. Why was this not brought up?
Matthew April 12, 2013 at 10:51 am
If and when it is going to happen, it is going to happen. We should continue the common sense…Read More practices that we've been doing for years. This alarmist nonsense needs to stop. Putting up more cameras and acting like the doors are locked (which many, many are not) isn't going to stop the next crazy person from doing something stupid.
But of course, it sounds good. And looks good...sure do love publicity.
I also find it funny that teachers are supposed to 'intervene' early by recognizing things, yet it is somehow ok to keep piling kids up into classes of 35-40 students per. Make it real easy to get to know your kids.
Put your money where your mouth is Duncan, Dance, etc. You want secure buildings, get rid of the trailers, have kids inside a secure building and not going in and out all day (which causes many to leave property and return...just waiting for what happened at Glen Burnie to happen elsewhere). Do you really think people don't see through this BS?
Zoobie April 15, 2013 at 09:48 pm
Perhaps the esteemed secretary should be introduced to The NRA. I am sure they would be more than…Read More willing to start a course where students could be educated in the SAFE use of firearms.Early learning reference to The Second Ammendment to The Constitution arms a student with knowledge as to why The Framers saw the need for a well armed society ready to defend The Homeland. Take away the alarmist approach to guns and violence, and educate, showing the Safety and Use of Firearms in the modern world.

Arlene,
Most Schools know about this program and hopefully they are communicating this information…Read More with students.

The RFP That was made open to the Public when this all began was foggy itself and also was very…Read More misleading. Brian Sheppard told us that thye will infor the bidder they choose of what they have to build when their bid is accepted, probably more lies from his end.
Ashley Virginia April 11, 2013 at 01:09 pm
The Open RFP Never mentions Lynch Cove at all. Unless the bidders already knew about it they…Read More wouldn't know it existed. And both bidders to my knowledge have issues with the Tower remaining where it is. Both own commercial properties, do we really need more empty shopping centers in dundalk?
Glen April 4, 2013 at 03:30 am
This is primarily a constitutionally flawed bill, presented by Todd with marginally limited…Read More justification on his part, which would have also significantly limited the rights of BCPS parents and students to protest School Board decisions to arbitrarily close and consolidate well performing and within capacity schools. Let's look at the real issues and the development motivations behind some of the school property decisions.
Christine May 17, 2013 at 08:15 pm
I'm sorry, but I could hardly read your comment. Did you forget all your punctuation? It does not…Read More support your point of view when you don't even use simple sentences. It makes you sound like you can't write correctly and therefore may not be that bright, regardless of whether you an Einstein or developmentally disabled.
JD1 April 9, 2013 at 08:13 pm
Steve - that's BS and you know it. The entire Dept of Ed is a huge waste of public funds that could…Read More be used to support schools in need rather than paying fat salaries to mouthpieces like Duncan. School safety is a local issue and unfortunately BCPS and the BCPD are not securing buildings. I'm on a school parking lot RIGHT NOW and I'm watching kids and adults walking in and out of a BCPS school. Will Arne fix that?
Evets March 29, 2013 at 01:36 am
Mr. Huff's proposed bill would also likely make it illegal for teachers to protest at their schools…Read More in case of a strike or some other work action. Teachers in Maryland counties are prohibited from striking, but some have still held protest rallies outside of schools.
This bill would seem to be an an obvious violation of a person's first amendment rights.
Evets March 29, 2013 at 01:58 pm
Why do people seem to assume that retired means sitting around doing nothing?
Buck Harmon March 29, 2013 at 02:19 pm
Huff is creating his own track record of pulling some pretty dumb stunts...this violation of first…Read More amendment rights being just one...if he were truly good at what he does he would be shining...not failing...he might want to re consider mounting tires and doin oil changes...

One man's ridicule is another man's civilized discussion, although referring to a zit-faced teenager…Read More like Stanker Steve as a man is ridiculous in itself. Keep weeping it out, you little twerps.

I'm just glad my kid's school has AC in it, so when he ends up staying in school through the end of…Read More June, he won't be suffering from a poor learning environment.
For all the money this state dumps into transportation, I still find it utterly pathetic that we're not equipped to deal with 4-5 inches of snow at the most.
Pathetic.
Buzz Beeler March 25, 2013 at 03:17 am
Evets I think we reached a common ground on the peace about your dad and your place in life. I just…Read More hope you are honest with me and somehow I want to believe you are.
Maybe it's time to give this topic a rest. We have all talked about the Sun, Moon and the Stars.
El Capitan March 22, 2013 at 03:30 am
Stanker Steve, how many times have you been exposed and proven a liar?

If anyone does not think the county is playing games read this link from WBAL TV.…Read More
http://www.wbaltv.com/news/maryland/education/Baltimore-County-schools-to-spend-4M-to-beef-up-security/-/9379316/18330522/-/11plcuo/-/index.html
Even they got it wrong based on these quotes.
This is what the county said:
"Most of the new security dollars will be spent in Baltimore County elementary and special education schools. The plan is to replace outdated cameras and visitor-video surveillance systems."
"The county will also equip school resource police officers with mobile tablets to monitor video throughout the district. This new technology will allow police to survey an entire campus by way of streaming video."
TV 11 also said the parents approved of this but they only interviewed - one - parent and not - parents - meaning plural or many.
There is no mention of the words - armed guards - in that article and remember I gave them a chance to correct me if I was wrong! Not one word from the county or council.
I guess they don't talk to citizen's only TV stations. More face time for their image.
Armed guards is a far cry from security cameras!
