Sparks Philanthropists Commit $1M to United Way

The Mirmirans plan to donate the funds over the next five years.

A local couple is making a big contribution to the United Way of Central Maryland.

Fred and Feri Mirmiran—Sparks philathropists—plan to donate $1 million over the next five years to the nonprofit, which services people in need, according to a news release. 

The Mirmirans are only the seventh set of donors in the United Way's 90-year history to contribute $1 million, the release states.

The couple has also made million dollar donations to the Kennedy Krieger Institute and the R Adams Crowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland.

Fred Mirmiran is an engineer and founder of the Maryland Highway Safety Foundation, according to the release.

The United Way plans to use The Mirmiran Family Fund to benefit poor and vulnerable community members, a spokeswoman for the organization told Patch in an email.
