Hereford Student Named "Young Woman of the Year"

Olivia Keithley, a senior at Hereford High School, was recognized by the Baltimore County Council for Women.

A senior was recognized as the Baltimore County Council for Women's "Young Woman of the Year."

Olivia Keithley, 17, was nominated for the award by her teachers and guidance counselor.

"I was really excited," Keithley said. "I wasn't expecting it."

The Parkton resident is currently serving her third term as the president of the , which she has been involved in since eighth grade.

"I had a lot of opportunities to develop my leadership abilities," she said.

In addition, Keithley is the vice president of Hereford's student council, an assistant Girl Scout troop leader and a member of the school's Spanish, math and national honor societies. During her spare time, she plays the violin and is a dancer with the

"I'm good at managing my time," she said. "I like everything I do. I don't want to give anything up."

Keithley is still in the process of college applications, but hopes to attend either American University, Brown University or Georgetown University. She plans to study political science and education.
