"I'm an instructional leader and that's what I'm trained to do, and it has helped that I worked under John Bereska for three years as a chairman from 2002 to 2005 teaching Spanish," Last said.

Hereford's new principal is a Towson University graduate with degrees in Spanish and education. He also received a master’s degree in administration and supervision from Loyola College.

"Part of the reason I'm here is because of John's recommendation of me, I'm sure," Last said. "I believe that I have the respect of the parents and the faculty and that I can make sure that the educational standards remain at a high level."

And Bereska is confident he's leaving the school in good hands.

"After you've spent so many years as I have at Hereford, you want the school to continue moving forward and you want it to continue to be successful," Bereska said. "Andrew cares about education and quality instruction and he understands the importance of a comprehensive high school like Hereford is. He will make sure that Hereford remains on the right path."
