Hereford Field Hockey Dominates Competition

The school's football team, however, didn't fair so well.

The Hereford High School field hockey team shut down Harford County squads Patterson High School and North Harford High School as well as Baltimore County rival Dulaney High School with a combined score  8-0 last week.

Shannon Martello scored three times, Mary Claire Abbott scored once and had three assists, Jessica Karwacki, Layne Litsinger and Caitlin Abbott each contributed one goal and an assist and Lila Radebaugh also scored a goal for these games.

"We played at Dulaney on Thursday. Our goalkeeper, Marissa Betsill, came up with two huge saves to secure our fourth shutout of the season," coach Tammy Mundie said. "The only goal of the game was scored off a penalty corner play midway through the second half by our sister-twin duo Mary Claire Abbott and Caitlin Abbott."

Mary Claire Abbott sent a pass to Caitlin Abbott, who then blasted a shot into the cage from the top of the circle for the 1-0 victory over Dulaney.

Hannah Fizer made four saves against Patterson Mill High School, and Betsill made three of her combined 12 saves for the week in that game.

Martello scored all of her goals during Monday's 6-0 shutout of Patterson Mill. Radebaugh's goal and the assists from Litsinger and Caitlin Abbott were against Patterson Mill.

Betsill was called upon to make five saves during the Bulls' 1-0 shutout on Wednesday against North Harford, where Litsinger's stood for the winning margin.

Football Loses Big

The Hereford Bulls fell short in Friday's 24-19 loss to Baltimore County 4A-3A League rival Franklin High School despite a 93-yard kickoff return by Morgan Pritchett, a 50-yard run by Will Bittner and a 27-yard scoring pass from Ryan Jones to Luke Quidley.

Coming off of a 42-0 shutout of Woodlawn High School, the Bulls slipped to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the league while the Indians, last year's Class 3A state runners-up, improved to 2-1 overall, 1-1 league.

The Bulls led 12-7 after the first quarter but allowed 17 unanswered points and faced a 24-12 deficit before getting Pritchett's effort.
