Federal offices in the Washington, D.C., area are closed Tuesday because of the winter storm, according to the Office of Personnel Management website.

Emergency and telework-ready employees required to work must follow their agency's policies, including written telework agreements, the office said.

Also, fulltime employees of the District of Columbia National Guard will not be required to report today, following Office of Personnel Management guidance. All members should standby for further guidance from their supervisor in case of emergencies requiring Guard assistance.

Non-emergency employees (including employees on pre-approved paid leave) will be granted excused absence (administrative leave) for the number of hours they were scheduled to work unless they are:
  • required to telework,
  • on official travel outside of the Washington, DC, area,
  • on leave without pay, or
  • on an alternative work schedule day off.
Emergency employees are expected to report to their worksite unless otherwise directed by their agencies. Official operating status updates are posted on the OPM website.
