County governments may soon have authority to make restaurants accommodate customers with food allergies.

A new bill would let counties require each restaurant to have a staff member trained on food allergens, ready to advise customers, reports WJLA TV. The bill would also require restaurants statewide to encourage customers to notify servers about their food allergies.

The Senate passed the measure 33-14 Monday evening. A similar bill is pending in a House committee.

Restaurants could post an advisory on the menu, asking customers with allergies to notify their servers. Or the server could ask before taking customers' orders, says CBS DC.

The Senate version, introduced by Sen. Jamie Raskin of Montgomery County, would not apply to service stations or vendors at carnivals and fairs.

Next activity, we require people who go outside to be issued a warning about sun burn by the County? If you have a food allergy, is not it YOUR responsibility to be aware of what you eat or ask the right question?

If that law doesn't close down every restaurant in the state, the resulting liability suits will. Another law written by lawyers for the benefit of lawyers, and the expense of everyone else.

Are there people out there who take responsibility for themselves? Nanny Government. Allow us to make our own choices, good or bad. Just leave us alone. This law is as ridiculous at the Rain Tax. We need to elect people who have common sense. They might as well close down all restaurants and we need to eat at home. Eventually, with all the law suits, this law will push the small restaurants out of business and devastate each owner, they will be bankrupt in the end. Thank you government for your over-reach into our lives.

I am grateful I don't have food allergies. This bill is totally out of line, though. Government, get OUT of my life already!

Here we go again! If you have a food allergy would you not take it upon yourself to make sure of what you are eating? I do! Clearly overreach of government! Sure, maybe the restaurant should wipe your ass when you crap in their toilet too.
