Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley spent time Monday strumming a banjo as a street musician in Annapolis, reports CapitalGazette.com

Photos of the governor playing a six-string banjo emerged Monday on the Twitter account for the blog Eye on Annapolis.

O'Malley's Twitter account later posted the photo along with the words "I love that as governor of MD I can still play street music in Annapolis." It was a casual dress day for the governor, photographed wearing a Baltimore Ravens T-shirt, cargo shorts and flip-flops.

O'Malley, a Democrat, has for years been the frontman of a Celtic rock band, O'Malley's March, where he sings and plays guitar, banjo and tin whistle, says the Capital-Gazette.

Maryland residents and the media weighed in on Twitter.

Michael Freeman took a jab at the governor, tweeting: “I would have had money to tip Martin O'Malley, the street banjo player, if it hadn't already been overtaxed by @GovernorOMalley.”

The Washington Post’s Reid Wilson said: “Martin O'Malley reveals post-office plans, will be wandering banjo-playing minstrel.”

And Byron York joked: “If Martin O'Malley doesn't run for president, he can still pick up spare change around Annapolis.”

He will be doing this full time but not soon enough! Hope he goes to OC to play on the boardwalk and has his permit denied!

Don't pick on O'Malley. This was the only positive thing he has done in almost 8 years. At least he wasn't hiding in his office raising our taxes and wasting our tax money.

Reminds me of those homeless guys you see outside the stadium after the oriole games.

How did that imbecile get elected?

That is probably the only thing he is good for, being the clown. He certainly is not governor and has no redeeming social or fiscal value to be president. In his terms as governor he has done as much or more to destroy Maryland as his hero has to destroy my country. The only difference between the two is that we know O'Malley was born in this country.
