Monkton Traffic Dispute Turns Violent

The altercation resulted in one man being sent to the Greater Baltimore Medical Center for treatment.

A traffic dispute between two motorists escalated into a violent altercation on March 6, Baltimore County authorities said.

According to a police report from the Cockeysville precinct, the road rage incident led a Monkton man and a Westminster man to get into a fight.

A motorist from Westminster reportedly crossed the double yellow lines on Shepperd Road at about 6:30 a.m. March 6 to pass a vehicle being driven by a Monkton man, the police report states. At the intersection of Troyer and Shepperd roads, the Westminister resident exited his vehicle and a fight ensued, according to the report.

The Westminster man later chased the other man into a field and continued to assault him, according to the report. The Westminster resident then left the scene and the Monkton man was transported to the suffering from injuries, including broken bones in his face, police said.

However, Baltimore County police spokeswoman Cathy Batton said the Westminister man drove to the Harford County's Sheriff's Office and reported that the Monkton man was the aggressor. He also appeared to be injured—though less severely—but refused medical treatment, she said.

"We have two separate stories on what happened," Batton said.

Police are still trying to determine who started the dispute, whether self-defense was warranted and if the force used by either party was reasonable. No arrests have been made.
