While the truck went over the bridge, the trailer came to rest on the highway across the two right lanes, WJZ reported.
Maryland State Police was investigating the crash at the Patapsco River Bridge. Preliminary investigation indicated that the 2005 Ford pickup was hauling a trailer on I-95 south when the two separated, the truck hit the side of the bridge, traveled over the embankment and fell near Patapsco Valley State Park below, The Baltimore Sunreported.
Lane closures were in effect on I-95 south for more than five hours.
"Avoid this area," Baltimore County officials advised. "Extended delays [are] expected."
State Highway Administration personnel made repairs to the bridge and inspected it, according to WJZ. By 5:30 p.m., all lanes had reopened.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and the driver's identity was being withheld pending next of kin notification, The Baltimore Sunreported.
