Baltimore County Identifies Officer Involved In Fatal Cockeysville Shooting

The 19-year veteran has not been involved in other shooting incidents, according to police.

The Baltimore County Police Department has identified the officer involved in the shooting of a man said to be wielding a knife in Cockesyville Saturday night.

Police Ofc. Gibbons, a 19-year-veteran of the county police force, was involved in the shooting that occurred at a home in the 10100 block of Daventry Drive in Cockeysville, police said. 

Gibbons is currently assigned to the Cockeysville precinct. He has not been involved in any previous shooting incidents, according to a statement released by police.

The department does not release the first names of officers involved in shooting incidents per a contractual agreement with the union that represents the officers.

Officers were called to the Daventry Drive home for a report of a man wielding a knife and threatening people.

After arriving, officers ordered James Robert Rogers Jr., 49, to drop the knife he was holding, according to police.

Rogers was shot by Gibbons after he refused to drop his weapon, according to police.

Rogers died early Sunday at an area hospital.
