BCPS Launches Education Blog

The new blog is part of Superintendent S. Dallas Dance's plan to improve communications between the school system and the community.

As part of its effort to ramp up communications, the school system has launched a new education blog.

The purpose of the blog—called Deliberate Excellence— is to serve as a forum for "exploring trends in public education, analyzing data, highlighting school system operations, and discussing the role of community in strengthening schools," according to a statement from the system. Interested readers can also access the blog by selecting the purple "b" logo at the bottom of the Baltimore County Public Schools website.

Superintendent S. Dallas Dance and other school system leaders plan to post regularly on Deliberate Excellence, the statement reads. The first post—which has Dance's byline—discusses the need to focus on middle school education.

Dance is also an , where he posts about his activities and school issues. His predecessor Joe Hairston wasn't known for embracing social media technology.

This is a positive step toward more open communication between the BCPS administration and the community. Thanks Dr. Dance.

Judging by the responses on their other government blog the truth may be told not by the blogger but by the comments that may not produce the best type of PR.
If they put it out there (spin factor) it could be a liability.
