After a thrilling month, the 2012 Maryland steeplechase season has come to an end.

Jockey Joey Elliott and Incomplete claimed victory in the which kicked off the April steeplechase triple crown. The win was a major comeback for the horse after it narrowly missed the Grand National title and fell in the Hunt Cup during the 2011 season.

William Meister received a double honor when And The Eagle Flys won the , the second race of the triple crown. Meister was the rider and trainer for the horse.

But in a stunning upset, And The Eagle Flys fell toward the end of the , allowing Twill Do and rider James Stierhoff to seal the win in the grueling, four-mile race. The Hunt Cup is the final and most coveted jewel of the triple crown.

"If this is the only race I win in my life, it's a good thing," Stierhoff said after the race.
