Positive Is A Plus, Negative Is A Plus Only For Results In Medical Tests Elita Sohmer Clayman

Positive over negative is what we strive for and negative is only great for a medical test result.

Some nights, you cannot sleep due to being wide awake. Perhaps, you ate some chocolate and the caffeine is keeping you up. A doctor once told me, no caffeine products after seven p.m. or else you will be wide awake and not be able to fall asleep. I guess that is my trouble, I did indulge in only two cookies, chocolate ones from Trader Joe’s. They were delicious going down, but are playing havoc in me and so I sit and write an article.

Creating a story of about seventeen hundred words is my forte now and when I complete one, I feel elated, fulfilled and satisfied. Words are powerful and can be inspiring to others and they can be uplifting to strangers and most of all, can be a way of looking back into your past for stories of events to relate to in the article. They can be used to think about the future or the present.

If you have grandchildren, you watch them emerge into fine little people. They think in their own way, and often hear what you are saying about things and then later on, maybe the next time you see them, they say something about what they heard you conversing about with their parents when you were visiting the last time. If you are saying some words you do not want them to hear, you may spell it out and then it gets repeated to you all spelled out and they ask what does that mean? You sheepishly try to explain it without really explaining it. We try as parents and grandparents to keep their delightful innocence intact for as long as is possible. Of course, with television telling everything that is going on instantly, sometimes that is difficult.

When I was their age, there was no television, cellphones, DVD’s, Nooks, etc. When we listened to the radio which was our only source of news other than the printed paper which came twice a day to our doorstep if we did subscribe to it; we would walk away and missed some of the news. I do not remember listening to the world or local news as we ate dinner. Now days, I try not to watch the local news which includes the national news too while I am consuming my main meal. I feel it gives me indigestion hearing about what is going on in the community and some of the commercials are obnoxious watching when they are for pesticide companies or getting rid of the weeds in your garden ones.

I have found a new way to watch and eat without being in a bug, weed or a recent robbery or murder event. I turn on the House and Garden station and watch people searching for their dream home. They usually have a choice of only three houses. They go in and are either excited about the furnishings, wallpaper and paint colors, whether there is a fireplace and how large the back area is outside or they find it kind of outdated and or ugly. They make comments and some are funny and quite accurate. They are usually in a hurry to buy and occupy the house and the current reason on the four I have viewed is that they are living temporarily with one of the set of parents while waiting to find their wonderful dream environment.

One of the shows was quite funny when they told the real estate sales person that they were too old to be living with Mom and Dad and found their privacy being invaded by their hosts. Of course, Mom and Dad also felt their privacy invaded too by their adult age son or daughter returning with a spouse and maybe a child or two.

The agent tries to steer them to the one with the least need of repairs or with the lesser amount of color changing of the walls or the different type of flooring modifying or transforming that would be needed.

A recent show was also full of comedy too. A young couple with a small dog carried the dog with them between the three homes they were considering. They would look outside and at the back area, set the dog down and ask Juno how he liked it there. If the dog ran around happily, they would comment that it really was quite adequate for Juno. One time, she actually asked Juno did he like his soon to be back outside area. Of course, he ‘told her yes.’ She even told Juno that possibly he would have a brother or sister soon and I thought she meant they were having a baby. No, she meant that they were considering buying another dog for Juno to have a new playmate.

I know someone who when she was selling her small townhouse and was buying a single family home happened to stay when the realtor brought the prospective buyer. Usually, she would leave and so did the rest of the family leave too. This time, she stayed but she heard the comments they made about her home. They said this was small, that was not their color, and this was unsuitable for the master bathroom and criticized almost every aspect of her home. She really became incensed and quite angry at these comments. When we were buying our first and only home, it was brand new. The realtor had it very easy selling them and he was quite an obnoxious fellow himself. When it came time, to select the colors of the tile in the two bathrooms, he gave you a block of different samples of the tiles to be available. I chose a lavender and white tiny tile for my master bathroom, since the room was going to be papered and painted with lavender and purple accents. He looked at me and said in his nasty tone “you ladies are never satisfied, you always want something different.” I at age twenty-nine and quite enamored to be buying our first home which we could barely afford the monthly payment, then said to him “ why do you hand me a set of tiles in about twenty different colors and tell me to choose some and then tell me I should be satisfied with white or tan? For our money buying this home, we should get our choice.” He looked at me like I was asking for the moon to be shining every night in the bathroom and mumbled OK.

He did not realize or he did and did not care, that he was a lucky salesman because almost everyone prospective buyer that came to view the eight models of the houses available, became almost instant buyers. They looked no further and his job was quite secure in racking up lots of sales. His name was Sidney and everyone who came to buy complained to the builder about him and his condescending attitude towards the purchaser of these new homes. I asked him where he lived and he said a few blocks away which were older homes that had been in the area for probably forty years.

This one was a new development which was being built on many acres of land that had been undeveloped and Mom said had been an airport when she was a young girl growing up downtown. She said sometimes, a rich uncle would come and visit her family and he would take her mom and the kids for a ride in his stylish automobile and this is where they came to watch the planes come and go. From where she lived, it was quite a ride and kind of thought this area was the country section where the rich people lived.

The obnoxious agent was told off verbally by most of the new buyers and eventually he was taken off this area of his territory. When someone is buying a new home or a home that was occupied, the experience does not have to be marred by a sour agent. I thought in my naïve young mind that perhaps he was envious that his current home was quite old, not modern like what he was selling and had no patience with young people, buying a more expensive home than his. Who knows what went through his sour mind and we really did not care about his thoughts, when we were making the largest purchase of our lifetime.

A home is the biggest purchase, you will ever make and whether it is your first home, or you’re second home, it is a special experience and a new adventure in your life. It should be a happy experience.

Some people you deal with do not know how to make a person comfortable when doing business with them in any situation. I always relate everything to dancing and this is one you can do that with easily. If you go to a dance studio and the representative working there, whether the owner or an employee does not make you feel at ease with your decision to start taking lessons; you can easily be turned off and that is the end of your dancing career. That is also important when you choose a new hair stylist, a new doctor, a new dentist or even buy a new car. Salesmanship is something that can determine new things in your life either way. It is either a positive or negative event. In a medical test, you want to hear that the test is negative because that is the greatest result. In everything else, you want the answer to be a positive reply.

So whether watching the news while you eat dinner, whether you are buying a new home, if you are going to a new doctor or dentist, if you are starting a new hobby like dancing, golf, tennis or anything else out there, you must demand positive attitudes over negative ones. The dialogue should be positive, pure and perfect before you choose a new home, a new medical person, a new hobby or even a television show while eating your main meal.

Positive means good, constructive and helpful. Negative except in a medical test or procedure means inverse, contrary and no.

Be positive, deal with positive people, be positive yourself, watch positive shows, be involved for your pleasant times with positive people and know that being positive is beneficial, constructive and makes for happier times.

So to the obnoxious real estate salesman who wanted to curtail my getting my lavender tiles and to others that try to determine what they want over what you desire; say to them that their negative manner is not going to come out positive for them and be on your way until you find a positive person to make this happening a perfect, psyched up, prodigious and powerful new adventure in your life.
