Last Chance: Nominate Environmental Heroes By April 13

Our new "Last Chance" feature lets you know about important upcoming deadlines.

Residents have until April 13 to submit nominations for the Tawes Award and the James B. Coulter Award, which both recognize environmental heroes.

The Tawes Award recognizes youth, adults and organizations that have contributed outstanding efforts to better Maryland's environment, according to a news release from the Maryland Department of Environment. The James B. Coulter Award honors a government employee who has worked toward the betterment of the environment.

Past winners have participated in school ecology projects, community clean-ups and waste reduction programs, the release states.

The Maryland Department of Environment, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Maryland Petroleum Council are sponsoring the awards.
