Baltimore-Style Sharknado: 260,000 Gallons of Water, 20 Sharks, How Much Beer?

The disaster film "Sharknado" that aired last Thursday will be re-airing this Thursday at 7 p.m.—and there will even be a sequel coming.

If you weren't among the 1.4 million viewers watching (and tweeting 5,000 times per minute) during last week's airing of Syfy's "Sharknado," you're in luck.

Not only is it airing again Thursday at 7 p.m., but the made-for-television disaster film starring Tara Reid and Ian Ziering—about sharks sucked out of the ocean by a tornado and wreaking havoc in Los Angeles—will have a follow-up, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Sharknado 2," a working title, will have flying sharks invade New York City and is expected to air on Syfy in 2014, the Reporter states.

Fans can also tweet potential subtitles for the follow-up to @SyfyMovies using #Sharknado.

The Twitter account has already retweeted some entries: "This one is the shtako! RT @kevinculhan@SyfyMovies Sharknado 2: Sharkfall #SharknadoSequel."

"What we can guarantee is that 'Sharknado 2' will be lots of fun," said Thomas Vitale, Syfy executive vice president of programming and original movies, to the Reporter. "We'll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn't want our fans to worry they wouldn't get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year."

Screenwriter Thunder Levin told Mashable that the movie's experience was similar to that of Snakes on a Plane on opening night in the theater.

"Twitter users were yelling at the screen, shouting out lines and throwing virtual popcorn. It was great fun. We can do that now with hundreds of thousands of other people all around the world simultaneously," Levin told Mashable.

And, that includes Baltimore, which is no stranger to sharks.

In addition to "sleeping with the sharks" at the National Aquarium, locals can check out the aquarium's new $12.5-million, 260,000-gallon tank with the Blacktip Reef exhibit that opened last week. Museum officials hope to have 20 blacktip reef sharks by early August, according to Travel + Leisure.

Marylanders can also actually see a shark flying skyward, just like in Sharknado (but perhaps more realistic).

Chompie, a 446-foot-long blow-up shark comes out during Shark Week at Discovery Headquarters in Silver Spring, according to Silver Spring Patch. This year, Shark Week kicks off on Sunday, Aug. 4.

In real shark news, scientists this season are reporting a surge in the Great White shark population along the Eastern Seaboard, according to CBS News. Luckily, officials told the Baltimore Sun that there haven't been any shark attacks in the waters off Ocean City yet.

Have you seen Baltimore-area businesses taking advantage of the #Sharknado craze?

Baltimore photographer Daniel Putz may be on to something.

"#sharknado beer — Drinking a Tell Tale Heart(y) Ale by Baltimore-Washington Beer Works — http://untp.it/12kK8qQ," Putz tweeted.
