ShopRite Promotes Healthy Holiday Event Series

Take a look at the supermarket's calendar, which will help keep off the holiday pounds.

wants to change that. The wants you to enjoy your holidays without packing on the holiday pounds that come with gingerbread cookies and Figgy pudding.

Registered dietician Erin Peisach, who works exclusively in the Timonium store, has planned a series of health conscious holiday events for the month of December.

“We’re trying to help people eat healthy during the holidays,” Peisach said. “From my standpoint I see a lot of people put their health aside until January. “I just think there is no better time then now.”

The two-week list of events includes documentaries, fitness challenges, healthy recipe sharing, healthy food sampling and more. If that weren’t enough, each event offers prizes, coupons and other incentives to promote wellness around the Christmas dinner table.

Friday, Dec. 9
Please submit a recipe via email to Erin.Peisach@wakefern.com or drop off your recipe to Erin’s office. All participants will be entered into a raffle to win a $50 gift card and a bag of groceries.

Saturday, Dec. 10
FLO against Flab Holiday Fitness Challenge, 9-5pm
Erin will be helping the FLONation Foundation fight the battle against
obesity at this fitness event, hosted at Goucher College. To find out more,

Monday, Dec. 12
Documentary Club: “Two Angry Moms” 7-8 p.m.
Do you want to improve the food offered in your child's school? Watch this
documentary and join the movement! Healthy refreshments will be provided. To

Recipe of the Week, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Stop by the store on your lunch hour to sample a healthy and delicious
recipe every Monday!

Wednesday, Dec. 14
Know Your Health Numbers, 5-7 p.m.
Knowledge is POWER. Stop by the store to learn your health numbers and what they mean about your health. Get your weight, BMI, waist circumference, and body fat percentage measured. Talk to Erin and Personal Trainers from about what you can do to improve your numbers today. Enter to win a bag of groceries!

Thursday, Dec. 15
Police Athletic League afterschool nutrition program, 4 p.m.
Every other Thursday, students from the Cockeysville area who attend the PAL have the opportunity to participate in this nutrition and cooking class.

Saturday, Dec. 17
Live Right: Healthy Holidays, Noon-3 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 18
Live Right for Kids Day! Healthy Desserts, 10 a.m.-noon

Monday, Dec. 19
Recipe of the Week, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Stop by the store on your lunch hour to sample a healthy and delicious

Tuesday, Dec. 20
Erin's Favorite: Soup! 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Soup can be a great lunch, dinner, or even snack! Stop by during your lunch
break to sample a few of Erin's favorite soups and pick up the recipes to
make them at home.
