Looking to broaden the range of services provided to their clients, the Hunt Valley law firm of Hofmeister, Breza & Leavers (HBL) has added the Towson-based Law Offices of James A. List as “Of Counsel” to the firm. The arrangement is effective September 1, 2013.
HBL is a law firm that provides legal services to community, regional, and national financial institutions. In doing so, it focuses primarily on commercial, construction, and consumer real estate transactions, as well as settlements, loan workouts and restructures, foreclosures, and bankruptcies. HBL also routinely handles all aspects of related state and federal court litigation, bankruptcy, lender liability, title and appellate litigation.
The partners at HBL have more than 50 years combined legal experience in real estate, banking, and creditors’ rights matters. Title services are also available and are provided through the firm’s title company, Community Settlement Group (CSG).
The Law Offices of James A. List, LLC is a mid-Atlantic law firm serving business owners, families with developmentally disabled members, and individuals with real estate, estate planning, asset protection, and trust needs.
The addition of List’s knowledge and experience in corporate governance, estates and trusts planning, and fiduciary litigation will be a significant addition to HBL. HBL will now be able to expand its services to its banking clients’ to include trust transactions, and wealth management.
James List, who started his firm in 2008 after serving as a Partner at Baltimore’s Miles & Stockbridge, explains, “The Of Counsel designation will allow both law firms to remain independent, while sharing offices, technology, and, most importantly, personnel.”
While List’s current staff will continue to handle clients’ estate planning and litigation work, “we will now be able to call on HBL’s 25-member team, both to assist using our current work and to handle work outside our current scope of services.” The new arrangement also will enable List’s legal team to call on CSG to handle real estate matters for clients.
Beyond consolidating operations in HBL’s current Hunt Valley offices, the three firms jointly will be opening an Eastern Shore office in Salisbury. Located at 212 West Main Street in the heart of Salisbury’s downtown district, the new office “will enable our firm, HBL, and CSG to better serve our clients and referral sources east of the Bay Bridge,” according to List.
