Through Like My Community, local Liberty Mutual Insurance branch offices nominated the six causes and then asked local residents to vote for their favorite cause from June 25 through August 20.  This marks the second year Liberty Mutual Insurance has hosted the Like My Community Project in Baltimore, as well as in the Milwaukee and Dallas-Fort Worth communities.  Over the two years, the Like My Community Project has now contributed more than $600,000 to more than 40 local non-profit causes in these cities.

“Like My Community has shined a spotlight on the inspiring work these causes do in our community every day,” said David Johnson, area manager for Liberty Mutual Insurance, the nation’s eighth-largest auto and home insurer. “We are inspired by the passionate support local residents have exuded to help us provide funding that will be put to great use throughout our community.”

Each of the winning non-profit causes plans to use the Like My Community funds to make a real difference in greater Baltimore:

  • Believe in Tomorrow’s Children Foundation: The $34,000 will support kitchen renovations for families at the Believe In Tomorrow Children's House located at Johns Hopkins Children's Center.  The center provides more than 2,000 monthly accommodations to families of children receiving treatment at the Center. Additionally, the incentive funds received from the campaign will be used to build an elevator for children and families staying at the Believe In Tomorrow House By The Sea, one of our beach respite facilities located in Ocean City, Md.  "The Liberty Mutual Like My Community program was an amazing experience that will make a very positive and lasting impact on the Believe In Tomorrow Children's Foundation and the many critically ill children and families we serve,” said Brian Morrison, founder and CEO.

  • Kennedy Krieger Institute: The organization will use the $31,000 to help children with special needs find loving foster homes, play adaptive sports and receive free legal services. “Liberty Mutual gave us a truly unique opportunity to not only earn critically needed funds for our programs, but also to feel the support of so many in the Baltimore community who rallied behind us with thousands of votes,” said Lainy LeBow-Sachs, executive vice president.

  • SARC (Safety, Awareness, Resources, Change): The organization will use the $30,000 to help provide victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking, and child abuse with crisis intervention services, counseling for children and adults, legal representation and advocacy, and a safe place to lay their heads while they work to heal. “The response to the Like My Community campaign has been overwhelming,” says Luisa Caiazzo-Nutter, executive director. “The support that the community has given is key in allowing us to provide these vital services and will remind every victim who feels alone that there are caring people who want them to be free from violence.”
