Vintage Hunt Valley-Cockeysville: Gerar Stock Farm

Check out an interesting historical photograph, courtesy of the Baltimore County Public Library.

The 1,000 acre estate pictured in this photo was, at the time the photograph was taken, located in Cockeysville.

Committed to photograph by Deborah Skupien in the early 1900s, Gerar Stock Farm belonged to Elijah Gittings Merryman, according to an excerpt from the Baltimore County Public Library photo collection.

Before passing into the hands of Merryman, the home was owned by Union Army veteran and manager of Ashland Iron Works Col. Walter Symonds Franklin, the excerpt states.

The farmhouse at Gerar was demolished in 1962 to make way for an area hotel. Do you know which one?

I'll give you a hint: the excerpt says that the rest of the property was bulldozed and incorporated into the present-day Hunt Valley Industrial Park.
