Local Businesses To Fundraise for Parkton Olympian

Suzanne Stettinus qualified for the modern pentathlon at the 2012 Olympics.

Two area businesses are hosting fundraisers for a local Olympian.

Parkton resident Suzanne Stettinus, 24, is competing in the modern pentathlon, a daylong event that includes fencing, shooting, horse back riding, running and swimming.

Starting at 6 p.m. Friday, InSync Cycle in Cockeysville will hold a 90-minute Olympic Spin and Yoga session, followed by a 30-minute post race strech. All money raised—Insync is asking for $50 donations—will go towards Stettinus' contribution campaign.

"To be good in all these sports takes a rare individual," said Karen Dubbs, an InSync instructor and one of Stettinus' coaches.

Interested participants can register for the class on Insync's website. Refreshments will be provided by the Pennsylvania Dutch Market and prizes include $50 gift cards to Renaissance Day Spa, Yasou Greek restaurant and Athleta.

On June 24, The Manor Tavern in Monkton is hosting a toga party to fundraise for Stettinus' trip to the London Olympics, according to a newsletter. The party will feature a raffle, cash bar, dancing and live music.

Tickets are $20 in advance through Stettinus' website or $30 at the door.
