When I first met Paxton, I was a nervous ninth grader who missed a lot of school from being "sick". Nowadays, we call it "anxiety" and we give kids a couple pills for it and send them on their way. But in the 80's and 90's, it was a part of life that I just had to deal with. In 10th grade, despite hesitations and physical nausea, I joined the marching band - which was something I had really wanted to do since elementary school when I saw my super-cool babysitter performing in Mr. Paxton's Marching Band. After auditioning for band and being accepted, I vowed to Paxton to stop being absent so much. Throughout my 3 year membership in the elite DHS Lion's Roar Marching Band, riding on feelings of belonging, purpose, and euphoric pride, I had transformed from a nervous young girl into one of the organization's loudest captains. Paxton is my Wizard of Oz. He helped this little lion discover her courage and her roar, and in doing so he drastically changed my life. For that, I am forever grateful.

I have so many wonderful memories from my time with Mr. Paxton "Pax" at Dulaney High. It's such a difficult time for so many kids, and I was no exception. Like a lot of others, he helped me through a very dark time by not only being an amazing teacher, but he would patiently listen to anything I needed to talk about, he offered advice, and encouraged me to be the strong person he knew I was. I will never forget all of the Marching Band trips, the concerts, the parades where we managed to win just about every award possible, and the many hours of time spent practicing for all of it. He was the most dedicated person, not just teacher, but PERSON I've ever met, and he will never be forgotten. His spirit will continue to live on in each and every student, parent of a student, and co-worker who has had the extremely fortunate oppotunity to work with, or be taught by him. We all love him dearly, he will be sadly missed, and I hope that he will watch over all of us until we meet again. My sincere condolences to his family.

My husband, Jim and I will be forever grateful for all that Jim did to instill confidence in and enhance the musical skills of our daughter, Angie, and so many other students at WHS and Dulaney. He was truly dedicated to his students as both a teacher and friend. We will all miss you, Jim.

I just found out that Mr. Paxton passed away. He was an inspiration to many of us. He was my band teacher at dulaney for concert and marching band. He need we had what it took to be great with our music. Thats why he pushed us to get it right and there were times where practice for marching band would be a few hours becasuse we couldnt leave until it was right. He had edge and that was truly inspiring to me because he knew we had potential. You will be truly missed but ur memory will always be alive. Tina
