Cockeysville Resident Charged with Robbing 74-Year-Old Woman
The suspect is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bail.
A Cockeysville resident was arrested and charged with robbing a 74-year-old woman on July 30, according to Baltimore County police.
Police arrested Lenny Carela, 38, of the unit block of Breezy Tree Court, and charged her with armed robbery, assault, as well as 12 other charges related to the incident, online court records show.
Carela is currently being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
She is accused of breaking into the home of 74-year-old Cockeysville woman, while the victim was walking her dog, according to a news release.
The victim came home at about 8 a.m. and discovered Carela allegedly holding her purse and cell phone.
"The victim confronted Carela, and a physical fight followed in which Carela attempted to choke her, threatened her with a knife and dragged her to the basement," according to the release.

This woman is very violent and should be jailed. Everyone should be thankful the homeowner wasn't killed. The community can have peace of mind this criminal has been caught. I hope she gets a long time in jail for this vicious attack.

Most thankful should be Ms. Carela that she did not decide to enter my home. I have a little gadget that I always carry with me capable of issuing one-way tickets to meet Jesus. It is known to most people as a .45 semi-automatic handgun. (And yes, I have a permit to carry it.) If I ever find Ms. Carela or anyone else in my home under these circumstances I shall shoot first and then...well, I won't be able to ask any questions because Ms. Carela or anyone else who chooses to break into my home will be busy talking with Jesus...regardless of their age, sex, race, color, creed, or any other classification you can think of.
Good work, BCPD. Now let's see if the Baltimore County State's Attorney, Mr. Schellenburger and his staff can follow up and put her away for a while. A quick review of the MD Judiciary Case search indicates that this is Ms. Carela's first criminal charge. We can only hope that the 14 COUNTS she is currently charged with will encourage the Baltimore County State's Attorney's office to actually do something and overlook the fact that she is a first time offender.
I forgot one thing. Let's now hear it from Ms. Carela's friends, family, and (if she has any) co-workers about what a wonderful person she is, how she has fallen on hard times through no fault of her own, and how the authorities should just decline to prosecute this wonderful humanitarian.

Throw her in jail and throw the key away. She beat that poor elderly lady unmercifuly. She was lucky that she wasn't killed. If this woman is an illegal, send her back to whereever she came from. We have enough criminals in this country.

If you look at the MD Judiciary Case Search, I believe she is from New Jersey and was cited for expired tags, license, registration, etc. and a welcomed resident of Hendersen Webb. I believe that had a neighbor not knocked on the victim's door to check on her, she would have been killed as the criminal was twice her size.

I couldn't agree MORE with the above comments. Get her out of this country!! Send her back where she came from. Cockeysville used to be a good place to live. Now looks what's happened. I hope she gets a one way ticket out of Maryland and out of America. COME ON NOVEMBER!! Remember to vote for Romney and maybe, just MAYBE, we'll get rid of people like this. I'm sick of it!! I'm sick of the liberal die hards. Peaceful co-existence is not an option for illegals - they just want to kill and rob, so let's get them out of here.

Well as someone who lives in "Apartmentland" with my 5-year old son, I can say that I completely disagree with M. Sullivan. I am a hard-working single mom and I am quite offended by such a generalized comment. Perhaps you should visit "Apartmentland" and meet some of the people there and realize that a lot of them are decent and kind and don't deserve to be looked down upon as you so quickly have, M. Sullivan. You make it sound like Hooverville for crying out loud. What a disgusting and ugly comment. I can only imagine the source but, lucky for you, you've got a computer screen to hide behind.

Hendersen Webb is a major part of the problem. It appears as though they do not screen any of their tenants. It must be all about the almighty dollar for them and NOT the safety of the homeowners in the area. The management of Briarcliff does not put up with any nonsence or crime.

Unfortunately John, our Baltimore County court system and judges are too lenient with these types of individuals. I also commend the police department for a job well done and the commissioner for denying bail, which is a positive start. The victim is half this criminal's size, but put up a fight to defend herself and is now healing.

Mr. Sullivan, Here's what we can blame foreign nationals for:
Being almost every American's forefather,
working for slave wages so Americans can enjoy cheap food,
paying taxes without any hope of ever getting any benefits,
doing all the jobs no American wants to do,
allowing themselves to take the blame for everything wrong with this country. We Americans are the ones that must collectively take blame for our disfigured country. Allowing both political parties to underserve us and our communities and conversely allowing them a safety net for Wall Street and Energy Barons. The hate and fear fueling Dee Stratham's ugly quip, should maybe re-directed to the man she will support in November.

We did not invite them here. They did not take the legal path to immigration that is required by almost every other civilized country. They are not my forefathers. What is not commonly known is that after the attack, Lenny was trapped in the basement, unable to get out. Mom unlocked the door and let her out, probably saving her life by that action. How many of us would have extended that grace?
I agree with Amy - Love your neighbor, hate the sin. Vengeance is mine, says the Big Guy. Let's extend some of the grace that Mom did and allow our (faulty?) justice system mete justice, or our (faulty) social system allow the Lenny's of the world to feel worthwhile and not need to steal, hurt and kill. The sad situation is our children and grandchildren will see the error of allowing unlimited numbers of illegal immigrants entering the USA. Could the high unemployment be a result of unchecked illegal immigrants working jobs that were held by American citizens years ago? Are these illegal immigrants working for lower wages? The restaurant, landscaping and construction industries are filled with Spanish speaking workers. How many American workers have been displaced by these workers that can't even speak English!

They basically thumb their collective nose at our laws and our government lets them. How much more fairness do you want?

Mr. Sullivan, illegals are not responsible for the mortgage defaults and massive foreclosures, the billions lost in Wall Street's casinos, the exportation of american jobs, the theft of pension funds... I do not condone illegal immigration but I do not carelessly paint assumptions with such a broad brush, Yours, is the same hateful argument that ALL muslims are terrorists. Not all americans carry the surname found on the Mayflower registry. We must be inclusive and not divisive. It is this attitude that has created such devision between americans.

All muslims may not be terrorists, but ALL illegal immigrants are here illegally. Those things you mention in your first sentence are our own problems, not a problem brought in from outside our country. I am not carelessly painting assumptions with a broad brush. The statistics are out there, cities are being bankrupted. There are reasons that LEGAL immigration is regulated.

Some of you here have gone on this rant about this crime being all about illegal immigration and voting for Romney. I think we should keep in mind that America is a land of Immigrants - am pretty sure the Indians can attest to it. Secondly the idea that legal or illegal immigrant’s precipitates criminality is just darn right preposterous. Let's review the latest criminal acts of the past two months. The Movie theater shooting in Colorado - I believe he was not only a US citizen, a student in an NIH funded neuroscience program. The 15 year old shooting in school right here in our backyard, was also a US citizen born and bred. So to suggest whether slightly, indirectly or directly that legal or illegal immigrants negates criminality is just plain ignorant on the part of the person making this suggestions.
American in its infancy of a mere 200+ years old has still a lot to learn. We are still considered going through growing pains. We should not dare condemn or point fingers of superiority to others just because they do not come from the same cave as we do. There are various situations in life that would cause pa person to indulge in any type of criminal activity - I believe that's why we have the Government to make rules and the law to regulate and enforce them.

This is a very terrible and really very sad situation and my heart goes out to the 74 year old woman who would now be a little antsy whenever she enters her home. A person's home should be their sanctuary, but this poor woman would now be a little leery whenever she enters her home. I hope someone is in contact with the Department of Aging for suggestions on counseling and ideas on how she could move forward in-spite of this terrible ordeal.
We all should keep in mind that Ms. Lenny is also a person and probably someone's daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, lover, wife, or confidant. I would think that when her mother delivered her in the hospital and watched her growing up, I don't believe that she prayed for her to someday break into someone's home and rob and endanger their lives. I have yet to meet mothers who pray for such criminality for their child. Therefore, I am almost certain that her family is probably reeling about this and wondering what happened and what went wrong. Just like the parents of the 15 year old in Harford County, the Movie Theater shooter, Charles Mason, Jeffrey Dahma and all the other people who have committed crimes or have killed someone. These families are human and are also just like us...so we all should be mindful and be a little apathetic about how we attack people, especially when we do not have the full story. Tolerance, Respect, and Love are the key to our survival on this planet.

Now to the Romney Fan, I have been watching the GOP convention and I have to say...same thing, different year, different name and Nothing New. Each administration blames the one before for what ails America. American democracy is on the auction block. To the extent that Romney feels the need to go to Israel to ask for money. You know what they say, when you accept a hand check, you have to be willing to return it in one form or another at a later date. If I hear one more story about families who set up businesses on their own and how successful they became, am going to puke. Even the woman who participated in the 2012 Olympics now knows all about the world economics and how that works. Yes, Republicans will be voting for Mitt in Maryland, all ten of them with one hand holding their noses. People who do not take the time to read, research information, instead they sit in front of the television watching Hannity on Fox News and the MSNBC folks, scream at the top of their lungs, spreading gossip, personal opinions, and their so-called OH-Yes Members experts, nodding their heads at everything. If you take time away from these two stations, and watch BBC, PBS, read, and listen, you may learn that the America is no longer isolated. This thing called Globalization is real. This means that what happens in India or Greece affects us.

What I want to know is: Why does Romney crave this position so intently that he has sold his soul. He has turned over just like McCain and now, he is for guns, anti abortion, is very into name calling and blame games. He is bored, 65 years old, boat load of money, children all grown up, Ann is probably boring, can't take over any more businesses and breaks them up in bites and resell them for a huge profit. That's not exciting anymore so here comes, real power, American President at any cost! My father used to say when a person feels the need to forgo his integrity for something; he must consider how much his self-worth is really worth to him.
Unfortunately, he will not win because, people can tell a phony when they see one. He is clearly one. He can get anybody he likes, even as far back as his kindergarten days to say how he did not insert his fingers up his nose and licked it. It would not work because a rich person does not suddenly want to play poor. The territory is unfamiliar and uncomfortable. Anne saying she will provide choices for women. Well first, she had to have lived a typical woman life, meaning working mothers on limited income in order to understand what women needs. With her riding horses for therapy and her husband saying that 30 million Americans without insurance does not mean much as he plans to repeal the "Obamacare". That does not make any sense.

I feel sorry for him. Maryland is a DEMS stronghold and is very corrupt. Anyone who believes that the GOP or the DEMS truly have their interest at heart, they can continue to smoke whatever it is they are smoking. Sometimes Ignorant can be bless! What we have in America is a very corrupt system of uncivilized dogmas and idea logs that continues to perpetuate the same hooky ideas and the rich continues to get richer and the poor continues to put their hands out for more while the middle class is paying for everyone else. How a person can report to work daily for the entire nineteen months without a single achievement, yet they get their paychecks in some cases, increases. All the GOP talks about is repealing the healthcare act, because "we don't want government control and run program". Yet, each single one of the GOP is covered by the same Government Run program for them and their families. John McCain has had so many tumors removed from almost all body parts, including his nose. I never know that tumors grow in the nose. All these were tested and surgically removed by the government run health care plan. The Maryland GOP Rep. Andy Harris could not wait for the swearing in to finish the process before he began asking for his health care plan. We would invade Iraq, Panama, and the gulf. We would send millions and millions of dollars to Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc and build hospitals for them. But here, in our own home, we said no government run health plan.

Almost final on Romney Supporter: I hope I have given you something to chew on. I was in Canada this past week. I consider that Country civilized. You see all types of people in all shades. Two main languages are spoken in the province where I visited. The streets were amazingly clean. During my time, three candidates were running for election, voting is on 9/4. While we drove around the city, I was looking for posters in people's lawns, people holding signs up since election was just a few days away. I was looking for TV commercials by Superpacs, unions, and party affiliates, putting out negative information to support their candidates. I have to report that I did not see any of those. This civilized Country that has free health care system for all, supports gay marriage, and the citizens pays taxes for the benefit of the environment they live. I have visited England, where the National Health Service covers everybody. The doctor works for the government and is reviewed yearly on how they have been keeping cost down. The doctor gets a bonus if he can show that he has been able to reduce the medical cost of a patient by doing simple things like encouraging an obese patient lose weight and maintain a balance diet or help a patient quite smoking. When was the last time your doctor really took interest in your overall wellbeing?

Almost Final on Romney Supporter: I feel sorry for you somehow. We have been brainwashed and are so eager to jump on any bandwagon without thorough investigation and is very sad. This Country that was built by the people who were forced to live their countries for fear of prosecution based on their religious and political believes. Is sad that we have continued to become the worst thing they ever envisioned. We speak of Freedom, while a gay person in this country do not have the free liberty to have a civil Union in the Court because some people consider their union to be against the bible. Religion was the one thing the writers of the Constitution agreed should never be part of the government's role. Anybody should be able worship or not and still receive fair treatment according to the law of the land which was supposed to be impervious to religion. WE are not. WE the people, is now WE the irrelevant. The audacity of the GOP, setting America up, as the leader in Policing the world. Romney talks about building a strong army, yet none of his five sons signed up for any military service. Is ok for other people's sons and daughters to face death. I have had speeches tonight and to each speaker, I say how much did you pay for the speech writer...I need a part-time job. I suggest you watch C-SPAN too. Finally On Romney Pt 1: I started work at 16 and have been paying into the Medicare. Ryan's plan about people that are less than 55 years old now, fending for themselves with a voucher does not suit me. Have you tried purchasing insurance on your own? I want my money back when is my turn. Here is my recommendation: A real dialog on term limits for Congress and State legislatures. Explanation on what small government entails regarding sustaining and maintaining the way we live. I want to be comfortable shopping for goods and services because I know the product have undergone safety measures to ensure that am not poisoned. I want honest campaign where there is limitation in donation and who gets to donate. John McCain had great campaign finance bill a few years ago, that was watered down and is useless. I want Congress to seat down in a room, review all the federal expenditures and COMPROMISE, yes you had me and it’s not a dirty word on what gets cut and what does not without the lobbyist, so-called consultants, or the media.

Final Pt2: I want all negative television ads ban. Ads. must only address the Candidates plans and should not mention their opponent. Candidates must debate often and have time to answer unfiltered questions from the people. I want the issue of marriage, religion, and abortion to be struck out of the federal and political mandate. Those should be left to the people involved to determine their future and their faith. You can’t say small government, the begin cutting out all social programs because is “socialism”, then turn around and start telling people how to live. Or suggesting that Government is too intrusive, yet, turn around and begin managing women’s reproductive abilities. These will be a good beginning for America to becoming a Civilized Society and just maybe, others will begin to view them as a leader. Suggestions, if you are able, travel outside of the US to other developing countries and really see how people live. Brazil have free health plan.
Get ready, to hear the DEMS next week --- am certain the same bull will repeated in various shades. One positive for the GOP - there were a few more minorities this time than last four years.
Good night and I wish you pleasant dreams.
